The new monetary program of 2009 issued by the Central
Bank of the Dominican Republic foresees this year as a
year with great challenges for the Dominican economy,
given the declining levels of economic growth of the
major economies in the world, but at the same time, as a
year of opportunities, given the fall in international
prices of petroleum and other commodities, which will
influence in lower domestic inflationary pressures.
This situation,
combined with the fiscal adjustment foreseen in the 2009
public budget and a more moderate domestic demand growth,
would grant degrees of freedom to allow a change in the
monetary policy position.
