Nonfinancial public sector debt to GDP ratio decreased to 24.0%

 

At the end of the first quarter of 2009, the balance of the total debt of the nonfinancial public sector (NFPS) was US$11,418.7 million, reflecting an increase of 1.6% compared to December 31st, 2008. This amount represents 24.0% of the estimated GDP for 2009, of which 62.1% corresponds to external debt, which presented a  balance of US$7,092.9 million, while the remaining 37.9% corresponds to domestic debt, which totaled RD$154,916.2 million (equivalent to US$4,325.8 million). These amounts represent 14.9% and 9.1% of the estimated GDP for 2009.
